Deadliest Warrior Season 1 Recap Episode

Deadliest Warrior Season 1 Recap Episode

I am hopelessly hooked on Spike TVs Deadliest Warrior. I don’t know which I enjoy more the show itself or yelling at the show. Most of the time I agree with them one hundred percent, and I always like the science and the tech that they use. There are times though that I find myself wanting to hurl things at the TV. For instance, they had an episode entitled: Viking vs Samurai.

They were wrong, just flat out wrong. I will go into that on another posting.  This morning I watched their recap show from season one. They were taking the winners pre-gun powder and the winners post-gun powder and seeing who was the best, of the best. The second part of the episode – the post-gunpowder portion – was rather uneventful for me. The first half, the ancient warriors was very interesting. They took all of the winners and started weeding out the ones that they thought could not cut it and ended up with the Samurai, that beat the Viking and the Spartan, that beat the Ninja. Now whether I agree with the result of the Samurai/Viking fight or not or whether the Spartan/Viking fight that may have ensued would have been far more entertaining, the Spartan vs Samurai portion of the episode was great.

Spartan vs Samurai – Once again the eastern-jones that the show has, really came out. They, like so many other people, are convinced of the superiority of all things Eastern and Oriental when it comes to weapons and warfare. I will agree that Samurais and Ninjas are cool, but that is about as far as I am willing to take it. The guys on the show really lean toward the Eastern when they are analyzing the warriors for the episodes.  This episode was no different.  The Samurai has all of these good weapons and their way of life (Bushido) makes them these invincible warriors. It was funny as the show progressed though how the Spartans, much like the episode where they kicked Ninja butt, kept coming out on top. The Samurai showed how good they were with their bow and the Spartan showed how good they were at staying behind a shield, then using said shield to beat someone senseless.  I think the true telling point in the show was when the Samurai expert said that in Bushido they learned how to fight and the also learned about philosophy and reading. So this tells me that the Samurai would be able to debate with the Spartan but the Spartan would rip his ears off and feed them to him in the mean time. In the end when the two squared off, the Spartan showed why they were the best soldiers ever to take to a battle field (except maybe a Viking). They lived to fight and fought to live. They were bred for nothing but war. Instead of writing about war they lived it and they came out on top of the heap in the ancient warriors on the first season of Deadliest Warrior.

I still think that the Viking should have ended up on top but the guys love their Samurai too much.  I would love to see what they would do in a fight with a Viking.
