Dextre Tripp
Each year, one of the shows I look most forward is Dextre Tripp. Agility, Humor and daring are the trademarks of his act. From his feats in juggling, to slack rope walking, to having a vest of fireworks set off, he never ceases to amaze. If there is a show that you really want to go back and catch every version of this is it.
The first time I saw Dextre’s show was at the Georgia Festival. As I walked up the hill, there was a man in tights perched on top of a ladder. He was keeping up a verbal game with the audience while he walked the stage on a free standing ladder. I was hooked. I love the circus and here it was at the Ren Faire. I quickly found a seat and watched the rest of his show. From juggling on the ladder to standing on an audience members shoulders this guy could do it all. I glanced at the entertainment schedule and saw that he had several different shows and that the names seemed to get more impressive as the day got longer. I hate to admit that I didn’t make it to the last show of the day but Dextre Tripp stuck in my mind.
A few years later, at the Carolina Fair, Dexter was on the schedule. Caught one of his first shows during the day, walking a slack rope and made sure to come back for the last show which promised to have fire and of course fire = good. Got back to the last show and Dextre dons a vest that is covered in explosives. Not only is the vest covered in explosives but he breaks out the free standing ladder again. He is planning to blow himself up while on the ladder. Now, I am a good person so I am obviously worried about his safety. But he has a plan for that as well. He distributes water balloons to all the kids in the audience and has them stand by to put him out if there is a fire situation or really just for the kids to get involved in the show. The act went off without a hitch. The vest blew up, the water balloons were hurled and Dextre ended up all wet and passing the hat.
Dextre Tripp is a performer that has garnered fame all over the world. From the Americas to Japan he has thrilled audiences everywhere. He has performed for corporations, openings of venues and even on the MTV Music Video Awards. Dextre is always improving his act and pushing the boundaries. If you happen to catch him at an event, plant yourself in a seat and see where he takes you. While you are there, buy one of the juggling with chainsaw t-shirts!
