Barely Balanced Acrobatic Show
I love tall people. I love acrobats. So, it is no surprise that I love the Barley BalancedAcrobatic Show! When you are roaming around a Ren Fair and someone passes you, you tend to turn and look at them. When you trun and you are staring at the knees of the person that passed you and they have a sign for a show… you follow the knees… sign.
So I followed the knees to the Barely balanced show at the Georgia Ren Fest a few years agaoi and they are now one of the shows I stop at each and every year. Starting from the three cast members coming in on stilts and the comedic removal thereof to the daring of juggling with fire and knives, they are not just an acrobatic show, not just a comedy show, not just a juggling show. They are a little of all three.
Pictures in this slideshow are from Georgia several years ago.
I can barely juggle three spherical items. Watching people that are good at juggling, people that are professional jugglers, amazes me. The timing that it takes to take a juggling act tot he next level and add audience participation and comedy is most impressive. Tack onto that their acrobatic feats of daring andf you have an act that might cause you to have the kids at the emergency room later when they are trying the same thing and they drop their little brother on his head. They are one of my favorite acts and they keep making the stunts and the action bigger and better.
The next time you are at a fair and you see someone standing head, shoulders, waist and thighs above the rest of the crown you may be fortunate enough to be at a fair where Barely Balanced is performing. Drop what you are doing and get to their show. Sit up front so the flame from the batons can scorch your eyebrows off. Get chosen to go on stage and have knives thrown near you. You will have a blast.
