Tybee Island Pirate Festival
Tybee Island Pirate Festival
October 5-7, 2012
The Tybee Island Pirate Festival was designed to bring visitors to the Tybee Island area during the off season. After the summer guests have headed back inland, the people of Tybee Island noticed that they needed to bring people in, what better way to do that then to start a pirate themed festival. 2005 was their first year and they have been putting on one heck of a show every year since then.
The kickoff to the event eacj year is a party. In 2011, called the Swashbuckler’s Bash, this event takes place the Thursday night before the event and it is a HUGE piorate themed party with with music, food and last year The Pirates Charles band to ring in the festivities. Getting the weekends participants into the mood and ready for some piratey fun is the purpose of this kickoff and they always succeed.
Along with this kickoff event you can expect a Thieves market to be open each day, entertainment on the various stages around the island and a glorious pirate parade. This street fair gives you all the wonder and joy of the pirates of days gone by with a lot of Georgia culture thrown in to boot. Make your arrangements now and prepare to go visit the Tybee Island Pirate Festival this year. It is a beautiful part of the country that certainly has history with the pirates. They should be applauded for the fact that they have embraced this part of their history and are attempting to bring in some fresh blood to the island with a this great event.
