Damariscotta River Pirate Rendezvous

June 23, 2012

It is always a pleasure to write about events that help good causes.  And when those good causes are bening helped by a pirate festival… that is priceless and it makes my heart feel good to call myself pirate.

The Damariscotta River Pirate Rendezvous is an invasion of the Maine towns of Damaraiscotta and Newcastle.  The pirates sail into the town and take it over until around sunset, at which point the fade back into the mists and history.  During the invasion, it is all pirate all the time.  The Mystic Pirates invade the in-town areas of these two quiet little towns and get all the attendees involved in the action immediately.

With cannons blazing, the pirates ‘attack’ the town.  The townspeople try to muster a defense but in the end, the pirates do reach shore.  From here on out everybody, especially the kids are asked to help in the search of the Treasure of the Mystic Pirates.  The kids are invited to take part in this all day search through the business of downtown, imagine a pirate style scavenger hunt to covers the downtown areas of both of these Maine villages.  At the end of the day, the pirates leave with their treasure intact and a good time is had by all.

Of course, the real winner is the Lincoln County Family Holiday Wishes organization.  This group is a food and gift drive that helps the children of the area celebrate the holidays when otherwise they might not have a very Happy Holiday season.  If you are in the Maine area, take the weekend, go to the rendezvous, have a great time and help out this worthy cause.  This is my favorite pirate festival for the foreseeable future.
